Internal Pelvic Release with Jo

At Embrace Midwifery, we are committed to providing evidence based, woman centred care that supports women throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. We are proud to offer Internal Pelvic Release with Jo, who has completed specialised training in this gentle and highly skilled therapy.

The intention of Internal Pelvic Release is to prepare and optimise the mobility of the vaginal tissues and the structures surrounding the pelvis in preparation for labour and birth. This work focuses on restoring balance within the pelvis, improving mobility and creating space to support your body's natural function.

All of the organs in the body are supported by soft tissue connections. The pelvis is the bony structure that supports a woman's reproductive organs and contains a complex network of ligaments, fascia and muscles that support the bladder, bowel and uterus.

Over time, these soft tissues can develop tension. This may occur consciously or unconsciously and can result from pregnancy, birth, injury, surgery, poor posture, habitual movement patterns, trauma or everyday lifestyle factors.

When tension is present, it can influence tissue mobility, comfort and the way the pelvis functions. Internal Pelvic Release works by identifying areas of tension and gently supporting those tissues to soften and release. As tension eases, many women experience improved comfort, mobility and a greater awareness of their bodies.

The sacrum forms the foundation of the spine and plays an important role in pelvic stability, movement and the passage of nerves through the pelvis. Internal Pelvic Release aims to create more space within the pelvic tissues and promote relaxation. Some women also report experiencing an emotional release during or after treatment. Every woman's experience is unique, and treatment is provided in a safe, respectful and supportive environment.

What to Expect

Some aspects of this treatment are performed internally through the vagina. With your informed consent, Jo uses gentle, intentional and precise techniques to assess and release areas of tension within the pelvic muscles, fascia and surrounding tissues.

The aim of the treatment is to gently soften areas of restriction, encourage healthy circulation, improve tissue mobility and create greater comfort, movement and space throughout the pelvis.

Every treatment is tailored to your individual needs and is always guided by your comfort and consent. You are welcome to pause or stop the treatment at any time.

Appointments are booked for two hours. This allows plenty of time for education, discussion and a hands on treatment session tailored to your individual needs.

Preparing for Your Appointment

No special preparation is necessary before your appointment.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and arriving with any questions you may have. Jo will explain the treatment, discuss your goals and ensure you feel informed, comfortable and supported throughout the entire session.

If you would like to know whether Internal Pelvic Release may benefit you during pregnancy, in preparation for birth or as part of your postnatal recovery, we welcome you to speak with Jo or a member of the Embrace Midwifery team.
